BACHELOR OF NURSING FOR OVERSEAS EDUCATED PROFESSIONAL NURSES ( 1 YEAR PROGRAM)
Entry requirements
Pre-requisite courses/subjects: Passes at Year 12 level, or equivalent, in senior English and one of Biological Science, chemistry or Physics*
Professional certification/accreditation: Applicant for credit may be submitted by any person who gains entry to the program.
English Language Proficiency: To meet the English language proficiency requirements for this program, international applicants must demonstrate one of the following requirements:
Demonstrate a score equivalent to four semesters with a minimum grade of sound Achievement in Queensland Authority English. Further information regarding English - Queensland Year 12 equivalent table can be located at www.uq.edu.au/study
Achieve a score of at least 7.0 overall with each 7 in each section ( reading, writing, speaking and listening) of the IELTS Academic test (or equivalent).
* Prerequisites expressed in terms of Australian Year 12 studies.
Registration Requirements
the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) from 1 July 2010, require nurses and midwives applying for registration in Australia (i.e. applicants who have not completed their secondary education as well as a nursing or midwifery program taught and assessed in English) to demonstrate they have the necessary English Language skills required for registration i.e. English Language proficiency equal to an IELTS overall 7; writing 7; speaking 7; listening 7 and reading 7.
Enrolment requirements
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia assesses overseas professional nurses to determine their eligibility for registration as a nurse in Queensland. registered nurses in Queensland are mutually recognised in other Australian states and Territories.
Overseas educated nurses who are:
a) Eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia or
b) Not Eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia but who have completed a degree in nursing in their country of origin may be considered for enrolment in the Bachelor of Nursing for International students - Overseas educated Professional Nurses program.
